My ancestors came from Fürstenhut, Buchwald and neighborhood,
my family moved to Lower Austria before 1900.
Names: Peter, Strunz, Pribil, Selbitschka, Küblbeck, Leirich, Fastner, Harant,
Michetschläger, Paule, Krickl, Kölbl, Bauer, Wolf, Fuchs, Treml, Tröml, Kubitschek etc. I have followed the ancestry of many
families from Buchwald and Fürstenhut and collected considerable amounts of data (around 10,000 entries in my data
base). It's more like an entire family tree of Buchwald (Bucina), Fürstenhut (Knizeci Plane), partly Außergefild (Kvilda),
Kaltenbach (Nove Hute) and neighborhood (Böhmerwald or Sumava, former Bohemia.
A great great uncle of mine was a writer and poet, Johann PETER
(1858-1935), I have collected all his books and poetry in which he describes living in the Böhmerwald
around 1880. I am in charge of the Böhmerwaldmuseum in Wien (Ungargasse 3,
A-1030 Vienna) and I am always looking forward to getting new contacts. I am using the Family Tree Maker Program and offer to exchange data.
Furthermore I am interested in the regions around Staab (Stod) in Egerland, former Bohemia(villages: Dorf Tuschkau, Elschelin,
Honositz, Mirschowitz, names: Wiener, Böhm, Pawlik, Turnwald, Hofmann,
Kral). I am also interested in the region
around Klattau (Klatovy), village Janowitz (Janovice), names: Landkammer.

He says that the original list is from the collection of Mr.
Horst Friedl, Vienna. Mr. Friedl gave the list to the
Albert Stifter Bibliothek in Vienna. After changing hands several times the list
became lost but a copy was made by
Mr. Tautermann. The information that follows is from the copy. The copy did not
fully copy the original
and some information is missing from the right side.

Some of the names are best guesses. If the name is close to a
known current name it is probably the same name.

Usually
on a larger farm there
was
a Großknecht, (head farmhand) and a Kleinknecht,
(little)
his
assistant-which did the less favorable work. It has nothing to do with
tall and little.
It
was just the description of both farmhands. The same was it with a Großmagd
(head maid)
and
a Kleinmagd- her assistant.
A
Großknecht usually run the farm at the farmers direction.

«Usually
when a farmer retired, he writes over the farm to he his oldest son. He
and his wife will occupy a room or two on the farm, and will help with
the work on the farm. They will receive free merchandise from whatever the
farm produces. Also on the farm were remaining unmarried sons and
daughters and sometimes retired farmhands and maids, called Inleute.

in a historical publication or lists like this one
appears
a word like Har stüblerin, (hair =Haar)
Haarstube,Harstube,
this will mean Flachs stube –flax house.
A
major crop at that time to the early 1940s was flax. a Village had usually
one or two little one room
stone flax houses with an open fire place. (my
Village had two flax houses.)
These
flax houses were needed to almost roast the flax straw bone dry to
separate the straw from the flax.
Once the flax was prepared further in
bundles, it is called Haar, = hair.
These
hair bundles were than spun on spools and the spools placed on weaver
table and weaved to linen about 5-6 feet wide and about 30 feet long. They were than
placed on the lawn, wetted down for bleaching. These linen were used to
make clothing, and a lot of other stuff.
