Email From Richard Gotz: rgotz@siemens-emis.com
Subject: Mary (Lemberger) Herbst
He is looking for information on Mary Lemberger Herbst.
There is actually no information on the Herbst surname on the website
so I did a little searching and discovered some on a couple of farms in the Town of Poygan.
There are:
John Herbst, 28.
Frank Herbst, 47, from Austria with wife Mary, 39 and 11 children.
Ludwig Herbst, 62, from Austria with wife Fridolin, 50 and 8 children.
Next in the list is
Louis? Jungwirth, 27 with wife Kate 19.
I also found:
Joseph Jungwirth
Frank Jungwirth
Paul Jungwirth
Anton Jungwirth
Frank Mauritz
Wenzel Sippl
Wezel Schano
All on farms in the town of Poygan.
Mr. Gotz believes that Frank's wife Mary was a Jungwirth.

He is still searching for Mary Lemberger Herbst. Can anyone help?

On the Oshkosh Public Library obituary online index there are two Mary
Herbst listed:
Oct 1926 and Nov 1962. She is neither one.

I did find some Herbst in older city directories:
1893 John
1891 John
1889 Charles, Frank, Barbara
1886 Charles, C, Frank
1884 Frank, Karl
And then all the way back to 1876 with Josephine Herbst at 68 Merritt
Street. (She arrived early)
Several of these Herbst did live in the 6th or 13th wards and worked for various
woodworking companies but moved to the farms before the 1900 census.
That is why I missed them and they are not listed on the website.
I also found Herbst in the cemetery listing for Winnebago county

I also found  additional SCHANO and SCHRAML information on the Bill Burroughs website on Ancestry.com.

He has a few German-Bohemian surnames in his listings from the village of Landstrassen.

I was looking thru the tourist info that I had picked up when I was in Germany in 2001 and thought I would share with you the surnames of some of the people that run hotels and pensions in the villages of Haidmuhle, Bischofsreut, Freyung, Grafenau and other nearby places that are familiar to Oshkosh. If you are going to the 300th Anniversary celebration of Bischofsreut you just might be able to stay with relatives.

Kellermann, Berger, Madl, Ebersberger, Eder, Riedl, Seibold, Frank, Bloechl, Saumer, Stadler, Wachveitl,

Muller, Fenzl, Koelbl, Gutsmeidl, Zellner,  Fuchs, Kloiber, Stockinger, Schuster, Hable, Dichtl, Hopfinger.
